Zepp's Payoff Coon Squaller
from $60.00

Our Zepp’s Payoff™ Coon Squaller represents an industry best.

a.) It is 100% swirl acrylic, which makes it very expensive to make and gives each call its own unique look. No two of them will look exactly alike….and YES, they are 100% American made, here in our shop.

b.) Anybody with an honest open mind would agree these are prettiest acrylic squallers ever produced. If you compare them to anything else similar in price, this squaller should cost over $200.00. The fit, finish and attention to detail is not like anything else ever produced in our sport. Each call is precision milled in our CNC machine and then hand buffed one at a time to bring out the color and luster.

c.) There are four laser engravings on each squaller. Two raccoon engravings, our Zepp’s Coon Squaller logo, and the name of the squaller, “The Payoff”.

d.) Users can easily replace the reed block in the squaller. This “block” will fit several other squallers on the market as well, so if you can’t get a hold of those folks you can order them from us.

e.) Double rubber o-rings to ensure maximum hold keeping your call together during the toughest of conditions yet easily allows you to change your reeds when needed.

f.) It is super realistic sounding. It has an extra-large sound chamber on the top half and twice the “horn” or “speaker” on the bottom half of anything similarly priced giving it more volume than other two reed squallers. This attention to details give it nicer “ring” and louder sound.

Zepp's Eagle Coon Squaller
$40.00

A Sunburst!  Flying like an Eagle in Those Early Years!

I thought about my coon hunting journey the other day while reminising of days gone bye.  It began in the mid 1970's and was an unbelievably special time in my life and for the sport of coon hunting. Fur prices were at record highs with averages between $20 - $50 a hide, factoring inflation over the years that would be like a $100 - $300 average in today's world. I tell folks all of the time if we had averages like that today we would see a resurgernce in our sport, or maybe, with todays technological advances, guys would simply buy a thermal imaging device and not worry about feeding a dog year round.

One of the many things I loved about the onset of fall and the Ohio coon hunting season opener were trips to The Sunburst Light Company in Bellville, Ohio. I started coon hunting with a kerosene lantern and moved up to a Bill Boatman Dynalite before buying my first Sunburst light which ran off of a motorcycle battery and then, for a Christmas present, Pop bought me a Sunburst Eagle, their top best light at the time. I was on top of the world!  Belleville was a charming little town with a "Norman Rockwell" feel to it and I'm sure a great place to raise a family.  I always looked forward to driving over the bridge covering Clear Fork Creek and taking 97 East to visit with the late Jim Gatton, who passed away at 90 in 2020, and his son Mark. I was in my early and mid teen years then and the thing I remember the most was just how kind and respectful they were to me. A decade later, after graduating from college, I would move to Missouri to go to work for John and Linda Wick and the WOW crew and the Gatton's couldn't have been happier for me as they'd literally watched me grow up over the years and realized how much the sport meant to me.

For me, there was nothing "cooler" than turning on that Sunburst spotlight and seeing the raccoon head outline on the back of it....the option for the Ohio law light....the old greenbriar hunting jackets and Coonhunter brand boots of the 70's.  John and Linda Wick would revolutionize the clothing and gear worn by dog men just a few short years later and my life would just continue to get better and better.

To honor both Jim and Mark Gatton, I have named our latest squaller, the "Eagle".  We even used yellow paint for the lettering in this squaller like the old Sunburst logo had in it and also, the black and yellow matches a couple other favorites, the Waffle House and Dollar General logo colors. How can you go wrong with that!?

Decades from now, I hope our new Eagle squaller gives you some of the same kind of special memories that the Gatton's Sunburst Eagle and light company gave me so many years ago.

No man has worked harder for houndsmen’s rights or dedicated more of their life to the sport of coon hunting than Steve Fielder. This book is an interesting read and includes some of the history of our sports rules and Steve's background which included a lifetime of work for three different hound registry’s, UKC, PKC and AKC. I am proud to call Steve Fielder a friend of mine and our great sport.

Zepp’s Reed Replacement Kit
$15.00

Many manufacturers sell their reed kit with a cheap, inexpensive, poor quality, plastic injector rod. Our commitment to quality won’t allow us to do that! You get a CNC machined aluminum reed injection rod which will work on our Lifetime Coon Squallers and Rattler Predator Calls and 6 hand tuned reeds as well as a wooden dowel to help change the reed blocks in our River Bottom, Plus Points and Pay Off Coon Squallers. These reeds work great for most squallers and calls on the market today.

Coon Squallers

A coon squaller is a handheld game-calling device used by hunters to mimic the distress or chatter sounds of raccoons, helping to locate or draw them out during a hunt. They come in various designs, from reed-based calls to more advanced tuned models. Zepp is widely recognized as a leading brand, known for producing high-quality, reliable coon squallers.
